Hispanic Heritage Month – Sugar Beets

Many of the earliest Mexican people in Churchill County were farm workers. They came here in 1911 with East Asian workers to help grow sugar beets and share their knowledge of beet cultivation. Sadly, a fungus wiped out the first crop, and the industry never recovered. #hispanicheritagemonth
