Our staff is always hard at work solving mysteries we find in our collection. One relatively simple one was attempting to decipher this tag, which our registrar, Donna, found on a rug she was cleaning and rehoming. After a while, we figured it out, can you? (Our answer will be posted in the comments tomorrow).

Here’s our answer: “The Gulistan reproduces a gorgeous Kirman Rug embodying the deep emotion of the religious East. The field is in the form of a ‘mihrab’ or prayer arch, where the Mohammedan worshiper kneels in devotion. The Cypress Tree is the ancient symbol for Life Everlasting. The panel in the center reads ‘The Blessing of the Prophet be upon you.’”
