Churchill County Schools – Hazen

The Hazen School  was constructed in 1918. With indoor plumbing, lighting and a heating system installed, Hazen met the requirements for standardization and in 1925, on the same day, the Hazen and Lone Tree Schools became Nevada’s first “Standard Rural School.” Echo Wood, who taught at this school after her graduation from college had a rather unpleasant encounter with a rattlesnake on the playground. Hazen was closed to classes in June of 1956. All that exists is the outer structure of this building.
