Docent Training
Would you like to help the Churchill County Museum spread the word about our county's history to visiting school children? If the answer is "yes," join us in becoming a docent for the museum!
Docents are the very special people who learn about the history of the area, and help interpret it for visiting groups of children and adults. No special educational requirement is needed, and we'll provide the learning materials. You provide a commitment of time, energy, and enthusiasm by being prepared to attend a short training course, and then volunteering for at least four hours per month.
Our children's tours include those that cover the full museum, tours that are focused to specific parts of the museum, and tours that travel to the schools. Some teachers request tours that include special hands-on activities and demonstrations.
Hidden Cave Tour Guides
Working in conjunction with Bureau of Land Management (BLM) personnel, Hidden Cave Tour Guides are trained to give weekday tours to school groups. Cave guides need to be able to attend a training course, walk groups up a ¼ mile dirt path on the side of a hill, to turn on the generator to light the cave, and to take the group inside.
Hidden Cave tours are a popular field trip for local and out-of-town groups!
What becoming a docent of Hidden Cave tour guide will do for you:
- Improve your self-confidence
- Allow you to learn about our local history
- Make you feel good teaching today’s children about the past
