Create Your Own Pet Potato Bug!

1 large baking potato
¾ to 1½ cups damp potting soil
1 to 2 tablespoons grass seed
4 small sticks, 3-4" long
2 or more wiggly glue-on eyes
several pipe cleaners
colored markers

Slice off a thin layer of the top of the potato lengthwise. Hollow out the potato leaving a ½ to ¾ inch wall. Place the small sticks at a slight angle into the bottom of the potato to create legs. Do this carefully so that your potato bug will stand up. Now glue on your pet’s eyes and decorate the body with the markers. Use the pipe cleaners to make feelers, noses and tails. When the pet bug looks just right, fill the hollow with damp potting soil and sprinkle with grass seed. Keep your pet bug watered, don’t forget to give it sunlight and watch it grow.
